God's Agenda - February 19, 2012

Speaker: Joe DeRoulhac Scripture: Mark 9:2-9 Common English Bible 2Six days later Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and brought them to the top of a very high mountain where they were alone. He was transformed in front of them, 3 and his clothes were amazingly bright, brighter than if they had been bleached white. 4 Elijah and Moses appeared and were talking with Jesus. 5 Peter reacted to all of this by saying to Jesus, “Rabbi, it’s good that we’re here. Let’s make three shrines—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 6 He said this because he didn’t know how to respond, for the three of them were terrified. 7 Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice spoke from the cloud, “This is my Son, whom I dearly love. Listen to him!” 8 Suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus. 9 As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them not to tell anyone what they had seen until after the Human One had risen from the dead. Speaker: Joe DeRoulhac Scripture: Mark 1:40-45 Common English Bible A man with a skin disease40 A man with a skin disease approached Jesus, fell to his knees, and begged, “If you want, you can make me clean.” 41 Incensed,[a] Jesus reached out his hand, touched him, and said, “I do want to. Be clean.” 42 Instantly, the skin disease left him, and he was clean. 43 Sternly, Jesus sent him away, 44 saying, “Don’t say anything to anyone. Instead, go and show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifice for your cleansing that Moses commanded. This will be a testimony to them.” 45 Instead, he went out and started talking freely and spreading the news so that Jesus wasn’t able to enter a town openly. He remained outside in deserted places, but people came to him from everywhere. Footnotes:

Speaker: Joe DeRoulhac Scripture: Mark 1:29-39 (CEB) After leaving the synagogue, Jesus, James, and John went home with Simon and Andrew. Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed, sick with a fever, and they told Jesus about her at once. He went to her, took her by the hand, and raised her up. The fever left her, and she served them. That evening, at sunset, people brought to Jesus those who were sick or demon-possessed. The whole town gathered near the door. He healed many who were sick with all kinds of diseases, and he threw out many demons. But he didn’t let the demons speak, because they recognized him. Early in the morning, well before sunrise, Jesus rose and went to a deserted place where he could be alone in prayer. Simon and those with him tracked him down. When they found him, they told him, “Everyone’s looking for you!” He replied, “Let’s head in the other direction, to the nearby villages, so that I can preach there too. That’s why I’ve come.” He traveled throughout Galilee preaching in their synagogues and throwing out demons. Truth Telling - January 29, 2012

Podcast SummaryWelcome. We are delighted to share with you our weekly Sunday sermons and audio resources. We hope you will discover how our church family is seeking to sharpen our minds, widen our hearts, and deepen our spirits as we worship, connect, grow & serve together.
About The First Baptist Church of RedlandsAs a congregation and as individuals since 1887, First Baptist Church of Redlands has sought to express the fullness of God’s love in both word and deed. We do not claim to be perfect, but we believe that even in our imperfections, God’s love and grace can make a difference in our lives and world. Jesus shares the good news that God accepts us where we are and helps us to grow and thrive as God’s children. We do not believe that everyone needs to agree on every matter of faith and practice. Differences need not divide, but enrich, challenge, and affirm. We are united in our confidence that God desires to empower us in service as we commit ourselves to grow in Christ’s love and grace.
